The first winter on the Eastern Front and soldiers can be seen here using animal draught to transport supplies on a sled from one part of the Leningrad Front to another. The troops are wearing the standard issue greatcoat with a toque and M1938 field cap. The German army lacked the provisions to sustain their forces for a winter war and many thousands of their men got frostbite and other ailments caused by the cold.
